Joel Duff, a current Criminology student at Wilfrid Laurier University, holds a profound interest in environmental sustainability, enforcement, and urbanism. He is deeply passionate about promoting sustainable urban development and enhancing public transit systems, driven by a belief in sustainable practices as a cornerstone for future growth.

Joel’s keen interest in enforcement is underscored by his hands-on experience as a Pre-Board Screening Officer at Pearson Airport with GardaWorld, under contract to the Government Agency CATSA (Canadian Air Transport Security Authority), where he played a crucial role in maintaining the safety and security of air travel by preventing domestic terrorism. This position not only allowed him to develop a strong foundation in security procedures and regulations but also honed his skills in critical thinking, communication, and crisis management.

Looking ahead, Joel aspires to channel his passion for environmental sustainability and enforcement into a career within the federal government, focusing on environmental enforcement. He is driven by the desire to protect natural habitats, ensure compliance with environmental laws, and contribute to the global effort of preserving our planet for future generations. This aspiration to transition from aviation security to environmental enforcement reflects Joel’s commitment to making a tangible impact in safeguarding both people and the environment.

Originally from the vibrant city of Toronto, Joel has been actively engaged with diverse communities and initiatives that foster urban growth and environmental stewardship. His professional journey is marked by significant experiences with the City of Toronto (Parks, Forestry & Recreation), Toronto Police, Ministry of Public Service Delivery, GardaWorld, and the Ministry of the Attorney General. In these roles, Joel has contributed to improving public well-being and safety.

Joel’s commitment to community service is evident through his active volunteer work with notable non-profit organizations such as Me to We and Right To Play. These experiences have not only honed his leadership skills but also deepened his understanding of global challenges and the importance of collective action.

Joel enjoys traveling, writing policies, working with children and the community, as well as indulging in creative activities such as songwriting and making music. These pursuits allow him to explore new perspectives, innovate, and connect with individuals from all walks of life.
